What is portugal taca da liga?

A Taca da Liga, also known as the Portuguese League Cup, is a professional cup competition in Portugal. It was first introduced in the 2007/08 season and is contested by all 18 teams from the Primeira Liga, the top domestic football league in Portugal.

The competition is played in a knockout format, with the teams divided into four groups of four. The winner and runner-up of each group advance to the quarter-finals, where they compete in a one-off game to progress to the semi-finals and then the final.

The Taca da Liga offers a chance for smaller clubs to compete against the top teams in Portugal. It has also been considered a platform for young players to make a name for themselves and showcase their talents.

Benfica has won the competition a record eight times, followed by Braga with three and Sporting with two. The current holders of the Taca da Liga are Braga, who won the 2020/21 edition by defeating Benfica in the final.
